Nonni – orange liqueur and prosecco cocktail flavored with fresh mint and citrus.
One of Henry James’ famous quotes is: “Summer afternoon—summer afternoon; to me those have always been the two most beautiful words in the English language.” Add “happy hour” to this and you have my favorite idea of summer afternoons. It has become a thing around my house to have a Friday-afternoon-hell-yeah-it’s-weekend cocktail on the porch. It’s one of my favorite hours and not just because of the cocktail. There is just this beauty in sitting down, talking, shaking off the work week and making plans for the weekend.
A couple of weeks ago one of my friends introduced me to Nonni, a cocktail she had at one of my favorite pizza places and I have no clue how I missed this hitherto. By the way, I am talking about Fritti an Italian restaurant in Atlanta. Gluten free pizza might never be the real deal but this restaurant brought back the pie into my life and Friday’s pizza night. They make sure your gluten-free food is handled with care and do a great job with their dough.
nonni – orange liqueur and prosecco cocktail
Let’s get back to the happy hour and Nonni. This cocktail is the right choice for a Ladies night or summer afternoon BBQ (here we go again) and even classy enough for brunch with the in-laws. Every time you add some bubbles to a cocktail and it elevates the occasion to something special. There is no need to use too many words to describe the flavor, well there is orange and mint… It’s like a dressed up mojito. Just add orange liqueur, skip some other parts and fill the glass with Prosecco.
- 2 oz. orange liqueur (see notes)
- 2 slices of lemon
- 2 springs of fresh mint
- ice cubes
- Prosecco, ice cold
- Pour orange liqueur into a highball glass. Add two lemon slices and two springs of fresh mint. Fill almost to the top with ice cubes and top off with Prosecco.
