Do you know the frightening feeling you get every time you bite on something hard like a little stone, hiding in your rice or bread and you hear the cracking noise in your head and you think, damn there goes my tooth? How relieved I had been every time it turned out it had been a false alarm! Unfortunately this time it is my tooth for real that cracked and the strange thing is, I heard the breaking noise and didn’t have to wonder what happened, I instantly knew.
Eating has been tricky for a couple of days and I managed to behave well, I didn’t spill on anybody and didn’t loose my food while chewing. That can be harder than it sounds… Soon I will have a dentist appointment and I am half anxious because of the treatment and half looking forward to be finally able to eat like an adult again.

I am having a hard time chewing lately, that’s the reason why I am coming up with my favorite summer beverages. It seams to change every year, last summer I had been drinking iced tea like it would be my job. This years first choice is iced coffee. As the iced coffee is not really a recipe, it is more a smart trick, you can also find as a recipe for strawberry limes, so keep scrolling down.
I can remember everyone (maybe not everyone but almost) had been drinking strawberry limes in Germany a few years ago. It is not that popular anymore although the taste is still great. You can mix it with champagne or other bubbly wine for a cocktail. So after you made my berry lasagna, ate a lot of strawberries covered with sugar or even better chocolate, skip the home made marmalade and go ahead make you happy with some strawberry limes or vice versa start right away with it.
Speaking of beverages, I made this gin gin mule some nights ago and loved it! Very tasty and refreshing. I wish I had this nice glasses, love them.
iced coffee/iced macchiato
The problem with iced coffee are the ice cubes: you got your nice glass of ice cold coffee, the ice cubes are doing their job cooling your beverage but at the same time your coffee becomes watery and unappetizing.
The solution to this problem? All you have to do is freezing leftover coffee (fresh coffee not yesterdays, vintage doesn’t work for coffee anyways) and use these coffee cubes for your iced coffee. Add some milk, half and half, sugar or what ever you like. Try it with flavored ground coffee!
You prefer iced macchiato? Put half coffee cubes and half regular (or milk) ice cubes into your glass, pour milk over them but leave some space for the espresso shot. Make a fresh espresso and pour it over the milk. If you like you can top it with some caramel or vanilla syrup. And stir after serving not before like I did. 😉

strawberry limes
I prefer not to serve it on ice cubes instead I freeze the shot glasses to keep the strawberry limes cool.
400 g / 14 oz. strawberries
160 g / 5.6 oz. sugar
100 ml / 7 tablespoons water
160 ml / 2/3 cup lime juice
180 ml / 3/4 cup vodka
Heat the water and the sugar over medium heat in a small pot, cook and stir until the sugar is dissolved and let cool. You don’t need a thick syrup like honey, it should be just a little viscous.
Pour everything in your blender process until smooth. Fill in a bottle and keep in your refrigerator or you can also easily freeze it, without even loosing taste or texture.
