A few days ago we spend one week in Denver and the Rocky Mountains and I am really impressed about the nice city and the abundant nature. If you used to live in densely populated areas like many European, you are not used to this endless wild, green mountains. It is really impossible to get lost in the woods I had been strolling around as a child. Looking at the Rocky Mountains made me feel small and unimportant.
The second thing I won’t forget was the fresh and clear air. I am used to humid, warm air and Denver ‘s mile-high-air is much drier, thinner and easier to breath.
We enjoyed our vacation and did a lot must-do tourist things and a lot relaxing and a lot eating.
I would like to share my food top 3 with you and the farro – green bean salad which travelled with us all the way from Kansas City.
No. 1 was the best cupcake ever at a farmers market in Boulder, Colorado. It was a kind of healthy/vegan but I forgot what the sign under it said because my brain was distracted by all of this cupcakes somehow… All I needed next was coffee and we picked up a fair trade coffee and sat on stairs for people watching. Great small farmers market with organic and local veggies and fruits! Wish I could go there every week. We picked up a bread and some vegetables for dinner. Delicious! Can’t beat freshness.
No. 2 Great fun at the Cuba Cuba Cafe & Bar. We got delicious food and cocktails and it was like being on vacation while on vacation. I got a paella and a rum (Matusalem Gran Reserva) for dessert it was a good choice and I enjoyed this evening.
No. 3 If you like amazing and creative food, nice atmosphere and location you are at the right place at the Rioja. Although all the plates looked outstanding, I saw too much white porcelain. I mean after all day hiking and all this fresh air, I was starving and I am always a hearty eater and you know I could have eaten a lot more of this phenomenal food. This is why only No. 3 of my list, big numbers on our bill, an arrogant waiter and small portions (but really great food) are not my thing.
